The story
Lisa is an independent hairstylist whose work moves between wearable, client-focused haircuts and more expressive, creative styling.
The aim of this shoot was to create more than a collection of polished portraits. We wanted to build a complete and versatile visual story around her practice—one that would show not only the finished hairstyles, but also the person, process, environment, and values behind the brand.
For Lisa, working with hair is a tactile and deeply focused experience. Washing, touching, cutting, and shaping hair allow her to become fully absorbed in the process. But the transformation is not complete until the person in the chair looks into the mirror and feels that the result genuinely belongs to them.
That relationship between craft and self-recognition became the central idea of the story.
The approach
We worked with two models to show different sides of Lisa’s practice.
The first story was photographed inside the salon and focused on softness, care, communication, and a more wearable result. The second moved into the plant-filled courtyard, bringing a different rhythm and a more character-led, creative energy to the series.
Rather than constructing a sequence of isolated promotional portraits, I photographed the full experience surrounding her work:
- the salon and waiting areas,
- the tools and products she works with,
- consultation and communication,
- washing and touch,
- the technical process of cutting and styling,
- quiet concentration,
- spontaneous interaction,
- the finished results,
- and the pauses between appointments.
The portraits of Lisa bring these elements together, presenting her not only as a professional providing a service, but as the recognisable person and creative mind behind the brand.
Visual direction
The visual language was designed to sit between clean commercial photography and a more atmospheric, authored approach.
The photographs needed to remain clear, approachable, and practical for brand communication without becoming bright, flat, or visually generic.
Warm skin tones, wood, burnt orange, olive, and muted green connect the salon and courtyard. Directional light and open shadows add depth while preserving a natural sense of skin, texture, and place.
The resulting library combines environmental portraits, real process, client interaction, technical details, finished hairstyles, lifestyle moments, and images with negative space for social-media text and promotional use.
The result
The final story presents Lisa’s brand as attentive, tactile, individual, and creatively alive.
It shows what she does, but also how her work feels: focused yet relaxed, professional without being impersonal, and shaped through collaboration with the person in her chair.
This is the purpose of a person-led Brand Story—to make the work visible while allowing the human presence behind it to remain unmistakable.
